ITASoftware questions (specific, technical)

  • ITA Software once had a no redeye syntax and a no prop plane sysntax. I think there was even a way to specify no helicopter segments. Anyone remember them at all? And still know how to use them?

    There was also max price that worked GREAT, then they crippled it (accidentally?), then they removed the input box from the interface. Is there ANY WAY to specifiy this ANYWHERE with ANY (hidden) synatx? Oh, what I would give to have this back again! It found so many "neat" fares!

  • When I do that, I don't see any redeye flights. I do see the combination of "overnight flight" with "long layover", which means you'd be spending the night somewhere.

    Click on the "choose flights graphically" at the top, then click on the return button at the top and you can see all of the options laid out. It's easy to see there's no flying overnight there.

    Doing -redeye,-overnight gives you a severely limited set of options for the return (just two of them).

  • Well, I understand the DISTINCTION better, but now I can't get the SYNTAX.

    How do you type the no redeye and no overnight EXACTLY into the ITA To: box as in the above example. I want to get only TWO flights as you have suggested. I get a bunch more.

  • Well, those are the commands:

    /-prop seems to work.

    /-overnight seems to mostly work. A few overnight flights (with the red overnight flight warning displayed) still get thru, though those are the "short" overnight flights (ie fly until 2:26 am), while all the overnight in a hotel flights are gone. Also, if there are ONLY overnight flights available (no day-only connections), apparently the program turns off the request and supplies all flights (all overnights). This is aggravated further if MOST of the legitimate connections are not overnight, it lets a LOT more overnights into the selection. (PUJ-SEA in March during high-season shows ok, while PUJ-SEA on May 3 in "low" season only gets two non-overnights, but GOBS of overnights).

    /-redeye is accepted, but seems to have no affect.

    I can find no syntax that allows me to say /-overnight and /-prop on the same request. Or /-overnight and /maxdur. I can get it to ACCEPT the syntax without inserting the comma, but it still won't HONOR the syntax.

    And still can't find any maxprice command.

  • Thanks. The syntax above works! Without the comma, it takes it but doesn't do it. That was my problem.

    Thanks for the help!

    Try this:

    FROM: lax::ua /-redeye
    TO: jfk::ua

    You can also use:
    /-overnight [no overnight stops]
    /-prop [no prop planes]
    /-helicopter [no whirlybirds]
    /-surface
    /-train
    /-change [no airport change]

    To use multiple criteria, separate with commas:

    lax::ua /-prop, -train

  • This is what I typed:

    From: SEA::AA+
    To: PUJ::AA+/-redeye,-overnight

    No spaces seem to be necessary.

  • Just like the "ITA Route Language" commands, these commands seem to work separately in the To: and From: boxes for each segment of your trip.

    To: PUJ::/-redeye
    From: SEA::/-redeye

    Seems to effectively eliminate all redeye flights from consideration.

  • Oh! I think you are helping me see a distinction that I didn't see before. I wanted -overnight, but was saying -redeye.

    My bad. Thanks for the education! And the patience.

  • In ITA, enter a round trip from:
    sea::aa+ (on apr 22)
    to
    puj::aa+ /-redeye (on apr 26)
    [Corrected input is PUJ::AA+/-redeye,-overnight]

    Then look at the return flights. Lots of redeyes!
