Anyone on AC flt # 417,137,33 or 48 in the next 5 days
Why is it that uni students are expected to fly on the cheapest tickets, be it Tango or CanJet, HMY, West Jet, etc. This is distinct from those uni students who DO fly aforementioned fare class or airline. Uni students are expected to work over the summer, fly cheapest fares, justify why they are going to uni instead of working, go backpacking, drink and smoke "x" in excess? Why?
In the case of the OP, why do people suddenly care so much as to the OPs motivations for wanting status and going through with plans to achieve it, when it is revealed that the OP is a uni student. Of course, the OP also has a tendency to draw additional attention to himself during and after-the-fact. However, why are uni students put under such scrutiny? Whether the OP is on Exec/Lat/Lat+ fare paid by the parents is no different than someone travelling on the same fare paid for by a company or client. The necessity of that trip is determined by the party purchasing the ticket. University life can be very demanding, though thoroughly rewarding. There is also nothing to suggest that the OP is a slacker at Uni either. While his viewpoints might be naive at times, this is by no means an exception. There are quite a few really naive people occupying positions of great authority and power (look at most of the politicians in Ottawa, London, Washington, Tokyo, etc). It almost seems as if many here are envious of what the OP is able to do.
And to answer the OPs question: No, I will not be on any of the flights you will be on.
I disagree, for example in THIS POST (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=412507&page=2&pp=3) the poster is violating TOS by calling another FT member a bad name. Not very family oriented is it?
In addition, I used the words "blowup" and "doll" next to each other and in that respective order. :D
I know its different strokes for different folks, but honestly, doesn't a university student (yourself) have better things to do with his/her time and money than fly to hawaii and back only for the points?
I know I do!
Oh, and you're going to stay in a hostel, eh?
Yeah right. :p
I would imagine more than a few red flags are going to be raised with a foreign university student flying to Hawaii for less than a day for the purpose of a mileage run. I'd love to see this encounter with paranoid U.S. officialdom. :D
Even though it's so out there he'll probably breeze right through.
:D
Ahahaha :D ^
You don't post here that often do you? :p This is shore9 we're talking about. :D
:D
:D :D :D
22 hours or there abouts, I can only afford one night in a hotel/hostel, so it's an MR for me, a number of people have already told me that's the dumbest thing they've heard, fortunately people here are not as judgemental :D
so this university student buys expensive tickets to do mileage runs?
that makes no sense!?!?...
damn dude, u're in university! not like you fly 30x every year.. who cares about the 767s and whatnot?
It's Canada customs you have to be more worried about. I spent a few days in HKG last week and that wasn't enough to appease the Canada customs hounds. I recommend a good sized bottle of your favourite Johnson & Johnson lubrication. It will be easier for you and for customs.
:p :D
Imagine the 'wear and tear' on her after that time
Yes
Maybe he can ask YOWkid to borrow his blowup doll
:D
:D
Someone should start a thread to see who is addicted to status!!
I know at least one person. @:-)
:D
:D This approach is like hitting your head against concrete. It feels good when you stop. And you have status.
US Customs Official (US CO) "Welcome to the United States of America, what is the duration and purpose of your visit" He thinking to himself - 'Pasty white Canadian arriving in Hawaii, going to burn himself on the beach for a week or so and load up on nasty trinkets"
OP (AKA Shore9) "Uh, 22hours, Pleasure, No, Business. Ummm I mean pleasurable travel to obtain business class maybe in the future. Mileage Run - but top dollar so not really an MR - Man I am confusing even myself"
US CO - Now really confused "You mean, you paid top dollar to fly to our great state of Hawaii and you'all are just going to turn around tomorrow and fly home? - To Canada?"
OP - Uh huh.
US CO - "SECURITY".........
And then it's rubber gloves, cattle prods and graphic details not allowed on a family friendly forum......
Damn it nomad, how many times do I have to remind you that you have it and that even after a year and a bit, you won't give it back!!!
:p :D

And this from the person who says that flying AC in the back on YYZ-LHR sucks?
Come on...
