Homestead Village Suites - NO NO NO

  • Just thought that I would warn other travelers of a problem that I encountered today, which leads me to NEVER book with this chain again.
On May 16th I made a guaranteed reservation at the Homestead Village Guest Studios, 7979 Fanning St, Houston TX. This is in the Astrodome/Medical Center area.
When I arrived today at 2pm I was told they were overbooked and moved to the Days Inn.
This Days Inn, is a very poor specimen with none of the facilities of the Homestead Village - they let me have it for the same price (big deal!)
Despite my contacting Homestead Customer Service, all I was offered was the opportunity to fill out a complaint form....
Upon investigation by Customer Service, the Manger claimed he called our home phone yesterday, but received no answer - strange as we have an answering machine.
I cannot help but wonder, how you would ever trust this chain again - apparently reservations mean nothing (but I bet if I was a "no show" I would have been billed.
I know I wont use this chain again and wanted to warn all other travellers - anyone else experienced problems - any suggestions for compensation? I was offered a free night at this Homested in the future - however I seldon travel to Houston and if there is "no room at the inn" when I am paying - I cant imagine there is one when its free!!

If you are in the Fremont area, try the Hampton Inn right at the 237 and 880. New hotel, really friendly and helpful workers, decent breakfast buffet (your typical cereal, pastries, fruits, omelets, oatmeal etc.) and if you can finangle the right corporate discount (think of one of the largest employers in San Jose with buildings right next door) and the price will be right also.

  • I think Homestead did you a real disservice. Because of a problem I had with the Quality Inn in Mesa, AZ, I have since refused to stay in any Quality Inn, which I now rate only slightly better than Motel 6. To downgrade to this lesser chain and not offer compensation would have definitely raised my blood pressure! Send a formal complaint letter to Homestead corporate with a cc to the Homestead Hotel manager. Include a copy of the Days Inn bill with your Homestead confirmation info. • This is called "walking". Normanlly you get the night free. Just like airlines overbook, so do hotels. Has happened to me a the gorgeous Hilton Mission Bay about 2 yrs ago with not fun results http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

  • Usually hotels "walk" the guests that arrive late at night. This way if there any no-shows or cancellations, perhaps no one gets walked.

I have seen paperwork at Marriott Hotels listing reserved quests and next to their best customers' names are the words "DO NOT WALK"

It sounds like some losers are working at this particular Homestead Village Suites!

  • I stayed at the Homestead in Monrovia, CA in January for a week and loved it. Clean room, recliner, kitchen, big closet and free local calls. Since I was alone on business, it was perfect. The rate was great and given the opportunity to work in the area again, I'd stay again.

  • A free night might have made me a little happier - but none was offered

Let me say you may have made out. That hotel is not the best at all.. they have alot of SINGLE BEDS, the rooms are extremely small and the AC is loud and sporatic. There are some better choices as the Residence Inn, Hampton Inn or the Marriott.

Trust me, the property was ran by alot of people who did not care when I was there. Stick with a name you now..

    Ditto Gregg,

I just checked out of the Homestead Village in Atlanta (Druid Hills)...Practically brand new, at least it seemed that way. Very clean, comfy, decent staff, nice kitchen, big room...All for a negotiated rate of $45/night. It was my first experience at a Homestead, and hopefully not my last. It was by leaps and bounds the nicest $45 place I've stayed in.

  • Are we talking the one whos stock used to be 80 and is now 17 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

  • Is 237 and 880 right at McCarthy Ranch? I had dinner at Macaroni Grill in there with friends two weeks ago that very good and I'd recommend the place (Italian).

I'm at a Homstead Suites right now in Mira Mesa, on the north end of San Diego. They look pretty empty here. Desk staff was quite pleasant, even though I'm here on a $30 priceline bid for 3 nights.

Had friends walked last year in IND when they checked in at an all suites hotel (don't know which one). Management ended up calling the police on them, which didn't sit well with one of my friends being that he is a police sergeant. The ironic thing with this is that they were walked to the Wellesley Suites, where I was staying on a Priceline bid for about $34 a night. The previous hotel did pay for the first two nights of their stay, too, and the hotel was just as nice as the one they originally booked on their own.

  • Hello,

Sorry to hear about your bad experience.

A minor point but I think that the street name is actually FANNIN based on my days as an employee (1,000 miles away in Hampton, VA) of a Houston medical provider, Kelsey-Seybold Clinic. Sounds like this property is one to stay away from. Thanks for the information.

    Cheers,

    Va.Squireflyer
