Is AC likely to change rules to assign seats only to ticketed pax?

  • It got me thinking after seeing a CO fax cross my desk in which they had announced that they were implementing the new policy effective today. The new policy applies only to bookings made via CO rsvn desk or CO.com, not files booked through TA GDS'. But I wondered how everyone here would feel if AC did follow suit.

    BTW, the same CO fax also had another seating note; Plat elite ticketed pax only will now be given exit rows.


  • Does this not apply, in AC's situation, to full fare tickets? Most US carriers allow a 24hour purchase on discount fares, such that anyone can complete a booking, including seat selection, and then request a 24hour hold before paying. Given this situation, I guess US carriers are seeing seats blocked off before they are paid for both by TAs and the general public purchasing flights online. TAs do have a clearing house proceedure so that tickets are not actually paid for until the TA submits its daily buys. This is much like trading stocks. So even if we pay a TA, the transaction with the airline is not completed for a day or two until the clearing house deals with the payment settlement.

    (This also happens with us when using a credit card, since the charge is passed on to an airline settlement house, and not immediately credited to the airline.)


  • I didn't realize that a TA could assign seats without the passenger having bought a ticket! Anyway, since I've not availed myself of the feature/benefit I wouldn't mind if AC did away with it.

    Good to see CO saving the best seats for their best passengers. ^


  • Any AC fare transborder or international can be held with a TA for at least 24hours as long as you maintain the advance purchase. This clearing house you speak of means nothing to me as all non ref tickets are locked in stone as of midnight on the day of purchase regardless of the form of payment. Its nothing like trading stocks... you can't undo a transaction with a broker 2 hours later.
