Pains from tilted uterus during a period?

  • I've only just heard about tilted uterus today and was wondering what sort of pains women get from them when they are on their period? I read that women who have it tend to get pains in the lower back. I just want to know what sort of back pains you get and if you have any other sort of pains. My reason for asking is for the past 13 years since I've had my periods, I always get these unbelievable pains in my lower back, when I can't sit down and I get worried if people see me when I get one, because it looks like I'm going into labour! It feel like someones sat me on a sharp spike. I don't always get normal period cramps, but I would much rather have a stomach ache over this any day. It does run in my family and my Mum and sister are the only women I know who have th same pain. I read other things that some women can experience from it which I can also put a tick next to. As I said, I've only just read about it, so am just wondering.

  • You really do need to see a gynaecologist.
Lower back pain, pain during sex, urinary tract infections can all be associated with a retroverted uterus.
Treatment consists of a pessary fitted in the vagina to hold the uterus in position or surgery.

  • Ouch! I know just what you are describing and it is terribly painful. I have suffered through similair problems and had the same tilted uterus. unfortunately, after many years of worsening symptoms I was also diagnosed with endometriosis through emergency surgery to remove one of my ovaries. Pain such as you are describing is not a normal part of menstruation and there is no need for you to have to suffer like this. Talk to your gynecologist about your symptoms and ask for treatment options. you may be a good candidate for a hormone therapy. You won't believe you put up with it as long as you have once you feel better! And the good news is that you can feel better. Don't accept feeling miserable as your lot in life, it isn't and with all the treatment options available you can find relief and improved functioning during your periods. Also encourage your mum and sister to talk to their dr's-endometriosis is known to run in families.Good luck and I hope you get the treatment you need to feel better.
