Speaking of CHEATS

  • Has anyone else noticed the proliferation of people needing help boarding, but when you are one of the last people off the plane there stand 3 people with wheelchairs waiting for the nonexistent handicapped person that practically ran off the plane minutes earlier?

There should be a HEAVY penalty for this practice just like parking in a handicapped parking space.

These people are stealing resources from people that actually need them elsewhere in the terminal.

CHEATS should have their account permanently marked with the dreaded S's so everytime they go through security they can be reminded that they are not trustworthy.

  • Isn't the call "early boarding" for people who need assistance or need more time for boarding, which would include more people than those actually needing wheelchairs?

Yes, however Superd1 is noting that he has seen these people act quite spritely (sic) when it comes time to deplane, so they feel such people are not actually in need of extra assistance, but are taking advantage of the procedure to board ahead of their fellow able-bodied passengers.

  • The folks I have seen needing assistance boarding needed it leaving, or they waited until the rest of the passengers had de-planed before leaving under their own (slower) power.

The last time I flew I was one of the absolutely last people off the plane and there were 3 people standing in the jetway with wheelchairs waiting.

IMPO this is criminal and there should be a severe penalty for this kind of nonsense.

It's the absolutely height of selfishness and lack of consideration

  • There's always the possibility that these people were miraculously cured of their ills while in flight.
Not a strong possibility but a possibility nevertheless. ;)

    Cholula --

I nominate you for televangelist of the year!! ;) :D :D

  • Maybe reading the "prayer cards" with their meal suddenly allowed them to walk again... :D
If they're getting a meal then they truly have experienced a miracle..... :D

  • in defense of "some" of the miraculously healed... Not all the psgrs need the wheelchairs for their connecting flights. It's one thing to need assistance with the trek from the counter to the D gates in Vegas, and between C5 and 6 in Seattle. When the wheelchair requests are put in, its automatically done for all segments.

  • What meal? ;)

  • In defense of Superd1, there are a large number of people that take advantage of the early boarding because they "need assistance" that somehow don't need assistance getting off the plane, I'll go to find them and they have long since run out the door. This is not an isolated incident either, it happens frequently.

  • Don't put an end to this...I am looking forward to the day when I am old and cranky, albeit still traveling, and can pull this scam myself.

  • I had a business acquaintance (definitely not a friend) that was on the same flight with me. I saw him in the waiting area and he had a cane. I voiced my concern that something had happened to him as I had never seen him with a cane before. He replied that he only carried it so he could board first. UNBELIEVABLE!!...In disgust, I got up and moved to the nearest bar. This is extreme but I know I have seen many people doing this type of thing and it is terrible. Having had a handicapped family member myself, I think that people faking disabilities should be prosecuted.

  • Funny, I always thought that it was me. I mean, I just assumed that I had the ability to heal people on the way to their destination. :D :D :D

Actually he didn't say this. He pointed out that he's seen people being assisted onto a flight and when the plane arrives and he's among the last few off, there's wheelchairs outside the gate that haven't been used.

I'm kind of sensitive about this issue as my wife suffers from Post Polio Syndrome and as she becomes older walks more slowly. She also finds it necessary to be careful of her balance walking down the jetway which means a slow pace. Although she doesn't need assistance in boarding and we fly in first class, on our last flight she asked for early boarding as she got tired of almost being run over by the stampede of MVPGs and MVPs who race down the jetway seemingly desparate for overhead storage space.
